2020 Mite Summer Development Program

Program is set to start on June 2nd!

Join NSHDA’s 2020 Summer Mite Developmental Program! The mite level is where the core fundamental hockey skills are first introduced and developed, making it a pivotal time in a young player’s development. Its very important young hockey players receive the proper technical and tactical training from day one.  We have created a program that allows these young players to get professional training throughout summer.

We are reopening on June 2nd. There have been some changes to the schedules and limited quanitites of participation to ensure we meet the guidelines of Phase 3 but still be able to get the kids on the ice for training.

NOTE: If your player is 5 years old, you must contact NSHDA to discuss if this is the correct program for your child. Program is designed for 6 - 8 year olds.

Overall Training Overview

The focus of the program will be on skill development, small area games and 3 on 3 scrimmages encouraging creativity. 

• Skill Development: Edges, Skating mechanics, Transitional skating, Backwards, Crossovers.

• Overspeed and Quick feet skating drills.

• Game situations and concepts - learn how to utilize skating and puck skills in a game setting. It's crucial for young hockey players to learn how to play with and without the puck.

• Small area games and 3 on 3 Scrimmages.

Reopening - Phase 3 Guidelines

• Players will be divided up into groups of 9 or smaller.

• Players will receive emails from a coach on which group they are assigned to.

• Each group will be kept to 9 players and 1 coach divided in the 2 zones of the rink. 

• Social distancing will be employed.

• We will have separate entrances and exits that must be followed.

• Parents will not be allowed in the rink to spectate. We understand younger players need their parent to tie their skates, in this case parents must wear a mask while inside the rink at all times.

• Players will come to rink dressed less skates. Skates (and pads for goalies) may be put on in the rink.
